The mens first eight travelled to Reading for a civilised late afternoon start on Sat, racing in Senior eights. With a bye through the first round the crew overcame a fast starting Worcester eight to secure a race against Thames in the final. Thames had come through the other side of the draw which included Sudbury and Star and Arrow. With Dave Williams subbing in for an injured Jon Morrow, the eight had a great start and pushed very hard in the middle of the race to counter the advantage that Thames had at that point on the inside of the bend. Coming into the enclosures the Lea had a length or so advantage over Thames which we held to the line. An excellent performance despite an 11th hour crew change.
This is the crew’s second win in two weeks.
