Hackney Gold

Lea Rowing Club Juniors representing the London Borough of Hackney dominated the London Youth Games Regatta on 31st May 2014, winning four Gold medals out of a possible eight boat classes.  Other young Lea athletes also won silverware, including another Gold, as over 40 Lea children represented a total of six Boroughs at the Competition.  The London Youth Games is now Europe’s largest annual sporting event with London’s 33 Boroughs sending well over 100,000 young athletes to compete in 42 sports.  At London 2012, 44 GB athletes were former Youth Games Competitors, and between them they took 14 medals across the Olympics, including nine gold.
