Coaches

Providing our athletes with the best coaching is one of Lea RC’s main priorities. Lea RC and the Rowing Committee believes that good coaching and on the water leadership is a key ingredient for any participant to enjoy the sport and attain the desired level of success.

Meet the team

Director of Rowing: Nigel Weare

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing Lea RC’s rowing activities in conjunction with the Captain
  • Writing training programmes
  • Instructing coaches
  • Athlete/crew testing and selection
  • Athlete/coxswain coaching
  • Boat allocation

Men’s Head Coach: Richard Ellis

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing all aspects of men’s rowing at Lea RC from novices to seniors
  • Coaching athletes in the Men’s senior group
  • Implementing the training programme

The men’s squad is also coached by volunteers: Gill Parker, Jim Peacock and Mel Grech.

Women’s Head Coach: Paul Carter

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing all aspects of women’s rowing at Lea RC, from novices to seniors
  • Coaching athletes in the Women’s senior group
  • Implementing the training programme

 

Junior Squad Coaches

Lead coach: Dick Millard
Volunteer junior coaches: Tom Johnson, Mark Cushway,

Learn2Row Coaches

Due to the relaxed and introductory nature of the Learn2Row course Lea RC asks experienced club members to assist with coaching so that learners will be able to benefit from variety of input from different rowers.

Recreational & Learn2Train Coaches

We provide our recreational and Learn2Train groups with experienced coaches. All our coaches are friendly and welcoming and are able to assist in you progressing in the sport.
