Schools’ Rowing at Lea Rowing Club

A great way for your students to keep fit, enjoy sport and learn new skills.

“The students loved it. The attention and encouragement that the students get is excellent”  Teacher from Highgate School

Lea Rowing Club is able to offer your school rowing. If you would like your students to learn a new sport and keep fit in the outdoors, rowing is the perfect sport to choose.

You can book a one-off session, a blocked half term set of sessions or sessions for the whole year. If your students would like to take rowing as part of their GCSE PE, or as an Enrichment option we will work with you to tailor the programme to your needs and aims. The recommended session length is 1.5 hours.

We accept students from year 5 through to 6th Form College. To take part in the water activity students need to be able to swim at least 50 metres in light clothing (rowing/PE kit).

The maximum number of students per session is 12. We work to a ratio of 2 coaches to 12 students but this is subject to activity, age and ability. At least one of the coaches will be a Level 2 qualified coach. Students with Special Educational Needs will require a greater level of coaching supervision. All coaches have a DBS certificate.

The session cost covers coaching, use of equipment and club facilities.  Please apply to schools@learc.org.uk for a quotation.

Students who enjoy their experience are offered the opportunity to take their participation in the sport a step further by becoming members of the Lea Rowing Club.

Lea Rowing Club has excellent relationships with its local authorities and other groups which aim to introduce young people to water and the sport of rowing. The Club works closely with the Sports Development teams in Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest to further the sport of rowing.  Not least of all, the Club manages and develops Borough Rowing Teams for the prestigious London Youth Games Competition.

The Club has worked successfully with many schools from surrounding Boroughs over the years running curriculum sessions and even school boat clubs out of the premises.

In terms of pathways, some young children who first came to the club with their schools, went on to join the Club and then represented Great Britain at major international rowing competitions and are still club members today.
